Through local educational institutions, we promote and support the educational and professional excellence of the construction industry. For instance, our employees volunteer their time for the following programs:
1. Highland High School Engineering & Math Department - Project Lead The Way Program.
2. SIU-E Construction Leadership Institute - Construction Management Course.
3. SIBA - Southern Illinois Builders Association - Education Committee.
4. Teaching management classes and safety classes at Southern Illinois Builders Association.
3. We Work as a TEAM:
Our Product is "Excellent Service To Our Clients". Because the output of every employee involved in a project effects our service to the client, it takes a personal level of concern on the part of each and every person involved, whether in the field or in the office. The effort of every employee is required to assure us of complete customer satisfaction.
Our people: All employees are considered important to the value of our product. In a sense, each employee is accountable to put forth his or her best in every way to complement that of their fellow employees, whether up, down or side-by-side. Because every employee's actions matter, every employee's own personal welfare, and opinion is important.
Project Management: Weekly Project Update meetings which include the entire P/M team, allow all project management personnel to give input on a particular issue, or to learn from the issue. Often, each member of the team learns how to be proactive about a similar situation in the future.
Project/Service Performance: Sharing of "Means and Methods" and discussing alternatives between Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, Craftsmen, Technical Staff, and Senior Management are common practice here at K&L, with the common objective of providing the best at the most reasonable cost. It's the company culture.
Estimating: Most projects are estimated as a team project, usually with the resulting Project Manager leading the estimate. Many of the P/M team provide help (as needed) to complete the estimate on Bid Day.
Manpower: Superintendents and P/Ms work with and between each other to fulfill each other's labor requirements and to keep their craftsmen busy if they run low on work on their own project.
Subcontractors: We treat subcontractors like partners. We ask them to give us their best product, be safe, and be on time. We do not ask them for anything more or less than we expect from ourselves. In turn we give and take with them as much as we can, provide our best performance back to them, and we pay them as promptly as an owner or project allows. Our goal is to keep great partners, great partners.
4. We Make CUSTOMER SATISFACTION our #1 Goal:
We understand what keeps us coming back to a supplier - satisfying our needs the best. We understand that our customers have the same situation - they prefer to work with the service provider that most cares about what they need and best fulfills that requirement. We know our best sales tool is a customer that can't wait to call us for their next project or to recommend us to a colleague for theirs.
